Old Clearwater

All of us remember Clearwater from fifty years ago. I recall Gulf to Bay as unpaved as a shell road. Howard the Trader was the best show on television along with Popeye cartoons.  I loved the smell of orange blossoms in the spring. We all recall picnics at Sand Key with Australian pines for a skyline. Share some of your memories.

Dad used to rent wooden boats from Smittys in Dunedin. We'd fish Hurricane pass and around Honeymoon Island.

This was the Sunset Point Hotel in the 1950s. It was a beauty. Lester Dicus was the owner/manager. He was also Clearwater's Postmaster. I lived across the street in the Bay Queen Motel. Both have since been torn down.

Howard the trader lived in the Old Harbor Oaks near the hospital. Nancy his daughter class of 60, and I forgot the name of the oldest daughter, she was in the class of 59.

How many classmates married from within our graduating class? Other CHS grades?

Of course we all remember the dances at the Clearwater Auditorium down at the foot of Cleveland Street. Went to many "Star Spectaculars" there (Roy Orbison, Leslie Gore, the 4 Seasons, etc.)
